Bishop Allan Ewing is the ninth Bishop of Bunbury. Since his election in 2010 Bishop Allan has led the development of the Diocesan mission to be 'a Diocesan family, growing into the likeness of Jesus, all owning the ministry of Christ.'
In recent years Bishop Allan has encouraged the expansion of the commitment to life long learning through the Bishop's Courses of Ministry (programs of theological and ministerial development for lay people) and an annual five week shared focus on Christian life for everyone within the Diocese, 'Growing Together'. In addition he has promoted a measured assessment and improvement of mission capability through the use of the Natural Church Development (NCD) material, and improved communication within the Diocese. Key features of improved communication include a revitalized 'Southern Anglican' diocesan paper and an active presence in social media through website, Facebook and Twitter.
Working with community leaders has been a significant part of Bishop Allan's experience. He has worked with members of local service clubs, community organisations, parish councils, school boards and diocesan committees as well as being a Board member of a number of not-for-profit boards. In these many different areas he has appreciated the value gained from every person working together.
Born in England in 1951, Australia has been home to Bishop Allan and Tricia since 1980. Ordained as deacon in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn in 1987 and priest the following year, Bishop Allan was consecrated as bishop in 2004 (to serve as assistant in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn).
He has served in rural, urban and city parishes in New South Wales and the ACT as well as in Western Australia. During their time in Australia Bishop Allan and his wife Tricia have lived in Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and the ACT (where their two adult sons and grandson live.)
Bishop Allan enjoys walking, literature and recorded music. He is a published author on several theological issues. He is married to Tricia, a retired medical scientist. Prior to ordination Bishop Allan worked as an accountant and commercial manager, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975.
